In Icing Contion, why the throttle should be maximum RPM

Hello,

In POH,

When you expect ice blocking on the air intake filter,

the throttle should be positioned to obtain maximum RPM.

Is it because engine need more air? or is it for removing the ice on filter?

    Ice on the air intake will reduce the amount of air available to the engine, right? So the best way to keep the engine running is to give it the maximum amount of air possible. Keeping the throttle at max allows as much air as can get by the filter/ice block to get into the engine for combustion. It’s not because the engine needs *more* air–it just needs air and its source is being restricted.

    The throttle setting will not affect conditions outside of the filter enough to create or remove ice. Once you get the plane into warmer air that ice will break up no matter how you have your throttle set. Full throttle is NOT a de-icing strategy.

    Ice in all its forms , induction , structural etc is going to create a performance deficit.
    Added thrust is going to be needed regardless of the form of Icing due to the performance hit.
    As stated correctly above, if your engine is not getting the air needed in relashionship to the fuel flow, you’re not making the power you normally would.

    On top of this being in icing conditions means any bit of structial icing will relate in a higher stall speed for any configuration. Therefore id want to be flying at a higher power setting regardless of having induction icing or not.
