The Basic Plus subscription is a good fit for a student pilot. Internet is used for planning, but not in flight. In flight you will want a GPS. If you purchase an iPad with cellular capability, a built in GPS is part of the hardware. You don’t need to have a cellular subscription for your iPad, but it is helpful if you want to obtain information when you are away from a wifi that has internet. Also having cellular support is useful for filing, activating, and closing your VFR flight plans, although if you have a iPhone, it can be used for this purpose as well.
