Flying & building experimental single-seat piston-twin aircraft.

Dear Sir/ Madam, I am a 54y old person from India. Twenty years ago in USA, I had few hours of flying in Cessna and cleared for solo. Due to priorities couldn't pursue my PPL, now I am planning to do it in India. Mainly interested in bush flying (taildragger), also interested in attempting mountain flying. I wish to build a light machine which can fly across India, with maximum 3-4 stops for refueling. Would like to make it for one person + 20-Kg (45-lb) baggage. India fits in a frame of 3,000 Km x 3,000 Km (1,800 Mi x 1,800 Mi). Is it must to have twin-engine rating?, especially for unforgiving mountain ranges like Himalayas? In that case, is it practical to build a reliable piston-twin for high altitude flying? I would like to stick to time tested classical methods for the project. Thinking of all metal construction for air-foils, vital structures and 2-stroke petrol engines. I request your valuable advice & guidance in this regard, thanks in advance. Regards, Prasad J.
