sport pilot – medical required for solo?
Asked by: ayavner 1586 views FAA Regulations, Flight Instructor, Light Sport Aircraft
Hi all - just trying to get an understanding as I'm considering taking on a Sport Pilot student and haven't done one of those yet... I know they have to train to the same pre-solo standard (61.87), take the pre-solo knowledge exam, etc. as Private Pilot. But I am unsure (or probably missed something) - in order to solo and be PIC they need their student pilot certificate, picture ID, proper endorsements, etc ... but do they also need a 3rd class medical? Or is the driver's licence sufficient since they are training for Sport Pilot? Seems like either a loophole or I am just missing something. Thanks,
Adam
