Blue Zipper lines - the floor of Class E airspace increases because since it is a controlled airspace, ATC signal weakens....

    I’m pretty sure he’s asking for the reason behind Class E “zippers” (where Class G ends and Class E begins at a specific altitude above 1200 AGL, but still lower than 14,500 msl – not too many around anymore) and speculating it’s because of weak signals in he area.

    I don’t know the answer but, given where I have seen some in the past, I suspect it’s not signal or comm availability but an effort to “even out” the Class E floor in an area of widely varying terrain.
