IACRA Credit for Student Passing Checkride who Previously Failed with Another Instructor

Asked by: 2404 views Flight Instructor

I recently picked up a private pilot student who had been flying with another instructor and ended up failing his checkride. If sign him off for his 2nd attempt, will I receive credit in IACRA for him passing (assuming he passes his 1st attempt after I recommend him for the practical)?

The way that you worded your question, mentioning the 1st attempt, leads me to believe that this is a concern because you want to use the record of a pass to substantiate a request for renewal of your CFI (at least 5 students recommended with 80% passing on the first attempt) or toward a Gold Seal on your Flight Instructor certificate (at least 10 students recommended with 80% passing on the first attempt).

IACRA is a tool that the FAA uses for pilot certification. It is not a substitute for the record that you are required to keep under 61. It does not include information on applicants who might have filled out a paper application while IACRA is offline. It does not contain records concerning knowledge tests or endorsements for solo privileges.

Record the recommendations that you have made and the results, along with the other info you are required to maintain. The requirements are specific to you. The previous instructor’s performance is not relevant to you.

61.197 states \”passed on the first attempt\”. This would be their second, so it seems all the training they received from first instructor is measure of that instructors ability and not the second that gives a few lessons to fix flaws and claim the 80% pass rate to renew.
