Vectors On Course

Asked by: 2407 views FAA Regulations, Instrument Rating

Recently got the instructions on IFR flight: “Turn Heading 090, VECTORS ON COURSE.

Question: Should I fly this heading till the new instructions received or should I turn on my course when intercepting the previously assigned airway?

Thank You

The last instruction in your example is, “Turn Heading 090.”

“Vectors on course” is informational – they are telling you the purpose of the vectors. They may or may not want you to intercept your previous route.

Per the controller’s handbook, they are supposed to tell you why they are giving you the turn unless workload doesn’t allow spending the additional time talking to you. That is why you will sometimes hear an explanation following an instruction.
