Top 10 G1000 tasks to practice?

Asked by: 2896 views

I am working toward a G1000 check out on a C-172SP as a VFR pilot.  I'd like to practice the most common actions/activities on the G1000 to be as proficient as possible.

Can anyone give me a top 10 things to practice that would model the most real-world VFR uses of the G1000?

There are so many deep uses, I want to keep focused on the core items.  Thanks!

I have a couple suggestions (not all inclusive but a good start):

    1. Startup and preflight procedures, fans, standby battery check, ect. then after power up, making sure what you want displayed like traffic, terrain ect. is displayed and switching pages
    2. Being comfortable entering and changing Nav.com frequencies, transponder codes, Baro
    3. Being able to enter direct to into flight plan then practice entering a route/ saving.
    4. Being able to use the nearest functions, nearest airport, navaid
5 Use of lean assist and engine page, fuel reset procedures, fuel ring on map
    6. If using auto pilot, practice using the various modes to see how they react
    7. How to use and set the track up or north up, dtk up feature, especially if prior user does it different than you want.
    8. Use of weather map, bringing up metars and tafs

This should give you a start, its a great system. A good book to have is the Max Trescott\’s G1000 handbook
