Limited Center Thrust?

Asked by: 4011 views General Aviation

Greetings! I was recently presented with this question:

"If one has a twin engine rating, can they fly a limited center thrust aircraft" for a flight review? I want to say, "no", but am not too certain.

Also:

"If one has a rating for a Piper Aztec, can they fly a Cessna 337?"

Again, I want to say, "no" on account of the limited cneter of thrust. Any help would be grately appreciated.

In the US, if the pilot holds a FAA certificate with an “Airplane – Multiengine Land” rating not limited to centerline thrust only, then they can fly either a traditional twin or a CLT twin (type ratings excluded).

As to the second question, again if someone holds the above certificate, they can fly the Aztec and Skymaster. If they’re limited to centerline thrust, then they can only fly the Skymaster.

I agreed with the above answers. Remember also that a flight review need not be conducted in a multiengine airplane at all if the pilot holds a single engine rating. The flight need only be in an aircraft for which that pilot is rated.
