HV DIAGRAM – 2 DIFFERENT DASHED AREA

There are 2 different dashed area for R22. One of double dashed area, other only one time dashed area. What is the difference between these dashed areas?

    My goodness, you actually need to read the diagram.

    If you do, you see that the smaller area (double dashed) is for sea level.
    The larger area (single dashed) is for 7000 foot density altitude.

    Has your flight instructor not explained this to you?

    The development of the HV diagram is discussed in the Advisory Circular that deals with rotorcraft certification.

    The section below the knee of the curve is the takeoff portion. It assumes a high power, high angle of attack flight condition. (Climbing)

    Above the knee of the curve is the level flight portion. Power to maintain level flight is assumed.

    The power and angle of attack on approach are less, so the HV diagram is not an accurate predictor of a safe outcome for this regime of flight.
