    FAR 61.57(c)(1):

    “Within the 6 calendar months preceding the month of the flight…”

    1. Calendar Month of your proposed flight = June.
    2. Calendar Month when you established your currency per 61.57 (c) = January.
    3. Calendar Month of June, counting backwards 6 Calendar Months:

    June, May, April, March, February, January.

    It’s all Calendar Months.

    You actually have until the end of July.

    Take the date of the proposed flight, say, July 20th. The rule quoted above is “within the six calendar months preceding the month of the flight”.

    The 1st month preceding the flight is June.
    2nd = May
    3rd = April
    4th = March
    5th = February
    6th = January.

    Since you had 6 approaches and holding in January, you are legally current until the end of July.

    Thread bump… I accomplished holding procedures and tasks, intercepted and tracked courses through the use of navigational electronic systems and flew 3 instrument approaches in an aircraft in May. Then I flew 3 more approaches in a BATD that represented the category of aircraft for the instrument rating privileges I maintain.

    Am I legal thru 30 Nov? FAR 61.57(c)(4)(iii)(A) is throwing me off.

    Thanks all.
