You need a flight review within the previous 24 calendar months per 61.56.

It doesn’t matter if you have been non current for a period of time.

The 24 months to your next BFR will begin counting down from when you take your flight review, not when it was due/expired. For example, let’s say it’s been 5 years since your last BFR. If you went up and got your BFR done today, that wouldn’t make you 3 years overdue for your next BFR once you land. Instead, you’d be legal to fly (as far as your most recent flight review is concerned) for 24 calendar months starting from today/this month.
