ATP CTP and Type Rating

Hi folks,

I would like to know if there is any specific requirement to get an ATP Checkride on an aircraft (sim) with a MTOW greater than 40,000 Lbs since the ATP CTP already includes training on an simulator representing an aircraft with a MTOW greater than 40,000 Lbs. 

I currently hold a foreign ICAO CPL MEL IR C500 SIC and I would like to obtain a FAA ATP since I meet the requirements. I need a FAA license because my new job (private) is with a N- registered Learjet and I know it is faster to get an ATP in the sim than training for the FAA CPL and then going to sim.

    You can get an ATP LR-JET type rating as long as you have a graduation certificate from a CTP course and pass the ATP ME written test. The aircraft you are using to pass the practical test does not need to have a MTOW greater than 40,000 lbs.

    Some things specific to your case. You will need a letter of authentication from the FAA valudating your foreign ICAO license. You will need to get TSA clearance if training in the U.S. and you will need to study hard for the Learjet model you will be flying.
