Pressure Altitude calculation by simple formula and E6B

Asked by: 4556 views Aerodynamics, Aircraft Systems, Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor, General Aviation, Private Pilot, Student Pilot

Hey, I was calculating the pressure altitude with simple formula and when I double checked with E6B, the answer differed by few feets.

Does anyone have ideas on this issue?

Without knowng what formula, I see three possible reasons:

    1) You are using the wrong formula or using it incorretly.

    2) You are using the EFB incorrectly (probably difficult to do if it is digital but here you go).

    or, most likely

    3) Often, aviation forumals that you are taught are not exact, but are just to give you a ball park figure that is within acceptable parameters for planning purposes.
