Oil Temp and Pressure need DC power?

Asked by: 2456 views Student Pilot

If you lose power (engine and batt), will the oil temp and pressure indicators still function in a Cessna Cardinal RG? Thanks, Jeff

You lose engine power AND battery power? That would mean no alternator either. You’re having a bad day.

Those gauges will read the same as they will when all power is removed from the system in the normal way – for example, by turning the Master switch off. Look at them next time you have the Master switch off and there’s your answer.

But this would be a highly abnormal situation. If your engine stops making power, your battery will still function for a while. So where does your question come from?
