Can I list in order the practice approaches I want at a certain airport in the remarks section of the flight plan?

As a CFI, I am always asked by ATC what practice approaches we want for the flight. Was wondering if it would be just as easy to list them in the remarks section of my VFR/IFR flight plan. This would give ATC a heads up and also would free up the radio freq as well. Any thoughts?

You can do this, but my guess is they will ask what your intentions are anyway.

I forget the numbers but I understand that the information ATC sees in the comments portion of a flight plan strip is limited, so they are unlikely to see all of them if you do list them.

Personally, I don’t see much value to a “heads-up” to ATC more than simply informing them in the comments that it is a training or practice flight seeking multiple approaches, e.g., “Training. Multiple approaches.”

It’s not really going to do much to free up the frequency. As John says, they will ask anyway. You will always be telling them what you want to do next and engaging in the back and forth of clearances, readbacks and statements of intention. Besides, how much radio time does it really take to say, “34X would like the ILS into Metro next”?
