Converting from GA to Experimental

Hello, I have approx. 250 hours in single engine piston planes, mainly C172 and Piper Archers. I am considering selling my 172 and purchasing a Velocity (experimental). It is a pusher plane with a canard. I understand I would need to go to the HQ for Velocity to obtain at least 5 hours of instruction. What other cautions or precautions could you give me? Is this a good idea? Old school Cessna guys at my airport are trying to talk me out of it. Thank you for your time.

    Thats my favorite experimental plane and one I want one day too. I would also like to know this answer as well as the cost of insurance do to it being experimental and if your going over 200HP high performance as well.
