anyone know of any pipeline gigs where I can go to build up a bunch of hours?

Asked by: 3465 views Commercial Pilot

Hey guys i am a commercial pilot, now I am trying to get my hours up to a reasonable amount so I can get to flying some nicer planes, and instead of being a CFI a friend recommended doing pipeline monitoring.  Anyone have any recommendations on where I could look for that kind of work?

How many hours do you have? If I were a betting man, I wouldn’t bet on a new commercial pilot getting a pipeline job. I’m not saying it can’t happen but if I were you I would be working toward my CFI. There are TONS of hours to be had as a CFI, but you are looking for a pipeline jobs which seem few and far between these days. Get some hours as a CFI and then start looking around for a pipeline job. You’ll be much more likely to be hired.

As a kind side note- one reason you may not be getting any responses is that you are on a CFI board asking a question that makes it seem like you want to avoid getting a job as a CFI. Good luck to you

Not sure where you are but here in Australia they are currently looking for pilots to fill the fire spotting season (summer) and they take very low time pilots (ie basic bare commercial pilots licence). I know last season they took a stack of guys with less than 200 hours. The only real “other” requirement they had was a tailwheel endorsement.
