Learning the Commercial Maneuvers

What is the best way for a student to learn the Commercial Maneuvers and get proficient to PTS standards? Is it better for the CFI to introduce 1 or 2 maneuvers per lesson and not to move on to another maneuver until the student has become proficient in the two that were introduced. Or, is it best to introduce them all at once and jump around during the lesson from one to the other? Do most CFI's have an order by which they are introduced?

    I usually do a ground over all the commercial maneuvers right before the first flight that will include them and make sure the student understands each one. I introduce them all in the first flight. I personally start by showing them the maneuver and allow them to see all the instruments and understand what I am doing without having them worry about having to be on the controls, then I walk them through it with them while they have the controls (I guide them through it though and help them on the controls), finally I let them practice multiple times. Comes out to be about a 1.7 flight if you do them all.

    I think it is all personal preference. One of my old commercial instructors only did a single maneuver per lesson. A 1.5 flight of pure chandelles…yay…

    The commercial maneuvers are visual maneuvers. Don’t forget that. Also, referencing the ground immediately beneath you is not as useful as objects in the difference.

    I was taught each one individually and then, to be signed off for my check ride, I was required to perform each maneuver accurately in a single flight. That worked for me and that’s how I teach it.
