I learned to fly in a TriPacer on grass at Lake Village, IN.

The only hindrance you might find would be weather issues. If the airport owner clears snow from the runway that won’t be a problem. The only other issue is water. Rain and spring thawing can make the sod mushy enough to make it unwise to use it.

Other than that, there are sufficient hard surface and controlled airports in your area to train at for any operation.

You will be much more proficient at soft field takeoff and landing than pilots who have only performed the technique on a hard surface runway and never touched down on grass.

Cool now if only the snow would go away

I love i80 and airports like it. Most of my flying (including training for PPL, Instrument, and Comm) was out of 8i3 (near Kokomo) which is very much like i80. I’ve been in and out of i80 several times and live across town from there. The only difficulty is runway condition during times of snow and saturated ground. If there’s ever any question about the field conditions, ask. That said, I think grass makes for the best runways!
