Flight electronics??

Asked by: 3140 views Student Pilot

I heard from a friend that having a tablet is an excellent alternative to carrying around things like logbooks, flight calculators, and such. Any ideas as to what would be better Ipad vs Google tablet

Personally, I like Android so much better than iOS for everything. I use a Samsung Galaxy 10.1 for my flying. That being said, the apps and add-ons that they have for iPad far exceed what is currently available for Android, so you will likely find more advantages going that route.

Does Google play still offer enough apps to do the job? I also prefer android to apple.

Sure. There are definitely Android apps available that do the job. Garmin Pilot is multi-platform and Avilution and Naviator are popular Android options.

But, I am an Android fan who decided not to wait and bought an iPad when the Android tablet was still a maybe. I still use the Android EFB apps on my phone as a backup. My attitude is simple: I’m a fan, not a zealot. It’s not the iOS; it’s the apps.

When my iPad 1 started showing the expected signs of old age, I thought long and hard about making the switch. But the unfortunate truth is, that the iOS EFB apps remain more mature and more internally integrated than the Android ones. That might not make a difference to someone who has not used the iOS apps but may make a big difference to those who have.
