Carb Heat Use in PA28 Airplanes

Asked by: 5021 views Aircraft Systems

My apologies if this question has already been asked and answered on this forum. While the PA28 POH does not recommend the use of carburator heat at reduced power settings (example, during descents and approaches to landing), is it still good practice to apply carb heat in these flight conditions anyways? If so, why? I look forward to your opinions and insight, thanks.

According to the NTSB, it is a good practice to use carb hear as a preventive even in the PA28. I’ll let the NTSB recommendation speak for itself:

I agree with Mark. Also keep in mind, carburetor heat is a preventive system anyways. It is by no means a de-icing mechanism.
