DME Arc

Asked by: 5191 views Airspace, FAA Regulations

Reference KINT  VOR/DME runway 15:

I do not see a lead radial published. Typically there is a lead radial on a DME arc.

Why is there not a lead radial published?

Thank you for the feedback.

TERPS requires a lead radial anytime the intermediate course angle with the final approach course exceeds 90 degrees. In the cast of a VOR approach, the angle will always be 90 degrees as the arc is based on the same VOR. Most of the time, you will see a lead radial on an arc when the arc leads to an ILS where the alignment of the localizer course doesn’t necessarily coincide with the VOR radial.

TERPs normally only require lead radials when the course change from the initial approach to intermediate segment exceeds 90 degrees.

    Ref: TERPs Paragraph, 232a.( 1) and(2) J.
