2 Pilots both logging hours…

Asked by: 3244 views General Aviation

Guys any idea where i can find another pilot to buddy up with so we can do some intense flying and both log the hours?  I am looking to smash out 75-100 hours of flying within a month to get my hours up for CPL.  Reason for having another pilot is to share costs obviously on fuel etc.

Just to preempt, some will say any form of “holding out” or advertising this is not permitted. “Holding out” is just one of the elements that defines common carriage. In and of itself there is normally no problem “holding out” in aviation as long as you are not holding out to conduct an operation covered by FAR 119. For example, I “hold out” as a CFI. Perfectly legal as flight instruction is exempt from FAR 119.

So as long as you phrase it as you did above- you are looking for someone to help build flight time and act as a safety pilot- there is no issue putting up signs, going to different websites and posting as much.

Sam what kind of websites can I go to? I just exactly want to do that, share the costs and build some hours, I am not sure why the FAA would have any issue with that…

They won’t- some people think they will. Pretty much most flying websites have something… AOPA, Purple Board, Blue Board… etc. You can also try putting up notices at local airports.

Kev, where do you live and fly? As Sam said, there are national online forums and the local airport bulletin board. But depending on where you live, there may also be local pilot associations, active EAA groups, social flying clubs and other ways to network and socialize with other pilots in your area. Those friendships can be long-lasting and valuable in so many ways.

Kev, you can also search for state pilot associations, local active EAA chapters, and other social flying groups. Not only will these be great for flight-sharing potentials but they can also add lifetime friendships and networking.
