I have been thinking about going and getting my CFI recently. I fly part time and have about 500 hours currently. What my question is I have done a little training in a Lear with a type rated ATP, which from what I read and heard can give me approval for SIC. Had one guy tell me don't need to do all the stuff, get the SIC on my card if not flying out of the states so on so on. If I am going for my CFI would they look at this at all or would this cause any problems?

No. The CFI DPE should not care if you “should” have a SIC type rating or not. It’s true that it is only required if you are flying outside the States.

Have fun getting your instructor rating. It is well worth the investment.

As it pertains to your time in the Lear:

The DPE should care about and check whether you met the requirements of 61.55(b) both before you served as SIC and every 12 months thereafter. You don’t need the SIC type rating for flights within the United States, but you do need to “do all the stuff” in 61.55(b).

61.51 (f) does not allow you to log SIC time unless you are qualified in accordance with 61.55.
