It depends: how well do you swim?

Without knowing more about the kind of airplane you propose to take, I can’t give you a “real” answer, but that’s a fair distance to travel overwater in a pistol single. Are you comfortable with the landing alternatives in case of an engine failure or other major emergency? Will you be taking a life raft? Going KPNS-KCTY-KORL cuts your overwater leg down to 65nm but your overall mileage only goes up about 10nm vs going direct.

Also be aware that a direct flight appears to cross into the ADIZ. If so, you will have to file and activate a “VFR ADIZ” flight plan.

oops – you might also slice into restricted R-2905A air space.near KPAM depending on altitude. There are some many bit of Restricted and other don’t fly into air space that you have to check every flight.
