My personal vote is for the Bose A20.  If my wife were to buy that for me as a surprise, I’d be beyond thrilled.

Bose® A20 aviation headset – portable model, Bluetooth

Please let us know what you end up purchasing!

Or a Lightspeed Zulu – Every bit as good as the A20, IMHO, without the price tag.

    aerobatic Champ?

I run a Lightspeed Zulu, has bluetooth and aux input, use it everyday with no problems. ran me about $850 online

If you are crafty you can do this:
I got a David Clark 10-30 on ebay, then the comfort kit head band, gels and covers, new muff etc. Got the used so so 10-30 on ebay for $50, spend around $130 on the new accesories, now I have a “looks new” really comfortable good looking rig for under $200 for my passangers.

Oh ya, Zulu Zulu Zulu. Like Kent said, as good as the Bose, but without the price tag. I like the Zulu because it connects to my Cell phone and I can call the wife from 10,000 feet and tell her I won’t be home for supper. 😛

Although not sure these work for aerobatics, but since others are recommend this class of headset, I’ll add my two cents. ( or I guess with inflation, it’ll be my two dimes.)

Oh, BTW, I bought my Lightspeed Zulu Headset online for $600. That’s more than $400 less than the fixed price of the Bose. Almost half the price. Plus the people at Lightspeed back their product, beyond the warranty.

Yes, yes David Clark. An affordable quality basic passive headset. Although I would not recommend thier ANR version. But David Clark is the leader in aviation headsets. My secondary headset is David Clark, my primary is the Zulu for ANR (Auto Noise Reduction).

Check out http://aluraheadsets.com/ ANR headsets that are very affordable.  I’ve had mine for over a year and love it.

or check out http://bestaviationheadsets.com/   as there are a variety of passive and active noise reduction headsets available. If you have the time to scour ebay and classifieds for a Bose or Lightspeed Aviation Headset, then those would be great options second hand.  However, the best aviation headset under $200, new would will likely be a less well known brand (Pilot Avionics, Sigtronics, Cobra, etc) Good luck…pilots will love any gift of that nature.!
